The main drivers of change were China and India, which topped the ranking of the largest renewable energy markets.

In the first six months of 2025, the amount of energy produced by wind and solar exceeded that generated by burning coal, environmental analysts said. This was reported on Tuesday, October 7, by The Guardian.

According to the publication, scientists consider this a significant achievement. Compared to last year, the world received a third more solar energy, while simultaneously increasing wind generation by 7%. All this was accompanied by a reduction in the use of fossil fuels.

The main drivers of change have been China and India, which have become the largest renewable energy markets. Europe and the US are still lagging behind, continuing to rely on significant amounts of energy from coal and gas.

Experts predict that by the end of the decade, renewable energy production will double, with 80% of this volume to be provided by solar generation.
