The Rakuten Viber team conducted a new survey among the messenger’s users to find out whether Ukrainians buy gadgets for their children and at what age. About 29 thousand people participated in it.
According to the results, 93% of Ukrainians buy devices for study and leisure, of which 51% buy everything they need — a phone, a laptop, and a tablet. 31% buy a phone just to stay in touch. The results look like this:
- Yes, the child has everything: a phone and a laptop/tablet — 51%;
- A simple phone or an old smartphone to stay in touch — 17%;
- Only a smartphone, relatively new — 14%;
- Tablet/laptop for studying and gaming — 9%;
- We do not buy, the child uses adult gadgets for leisure and study — 7%;
- Only a smartwatch — 2%.
Respondents also shared at what age they buy their children their first devices. Almost half of those surveyed indicated that their children get their first gadget at 6-7 years old. Overall, the answers were divided as follows:
- Up to 5 years – 12%.
- 6-7 years old — 47%;
- 8-9 years old — 19%;
- From 10 years old – 22%.
