Less than a month in office: French Prime Minister Lecornu resigns, – BFM TV

The publication cites a statement from the Elysee Palace, which states that Sébastien Lecornu has resigned. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron accepted the resignation.

As a reminder, on September 8, the National Assembly (the lower house of parliament) of France passed a vote of no confidence in the government led by François Bayrou. The vote was supported by 194 of the 364 members of parliament – all parties opposed to Emmanuel Macron, from the far left to the far right, voted for the government’s resignation.

The very next day, September 9, President Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu, who had served as Minister of Defense in the previous government, as the country’s new Prime Minister . Lecornu then became the fifth prime minister in the past two years.

After his appointment, Macron instructed him to hold consultations with parliamentary forces and present the composition of the new government.

It’s worth noting that the 39-year-old politician was considered one of Macron’s most trusted allies: he has been on his team since 2017, serving continuously in every cabinet.

Lecornu later began searching for ways to save the state budget. Specifically, he refused to reduce public holidays.
