Police reminded: driving a manual transmission car with an automatic license carries a fine of 3,400 UAH.

The mark "78" in column 12 of the driver's license means that its owner has passed a practical test in a car with an automatic transmission and has the right to drive only vehicles of this type.

This was reported by the First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department, Alexey Beloshitsky, on his Facebook page.

He explained that this requirement is established by paragraph 17 of the Regulation on the procedure for issuing driver's licenses, approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 340 of May 8, 1993.

If a driver with a "78" license plate drives a vehicle with a manual transmission, it is considered a violation. This type of driving is punishable by a fine of 3,400 hryvnias, according to Part 2 of Article 126 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine.

To obtain the right to drive a car with a manual transmission, you must undergo additional training at a driving school and pass a practical exam at a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center in a car with a manual transmission.

Beloshitsky also noted that a similar mark, “78,” is also used in the countries of the European Union.
