Along with the ballots for the national survey, the Hungarian authorities will send their citizens a list of propaganda “counter-arguments” against Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The corresponding message was published by the representative of the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs.
The voting package will include Budapest’s summary of the “seven main risks” of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
“Financial risk: Hungary will become a pure donor. EU funds will flow to Ukraine, and Brussels wants joint borrowing, which will drag our country into debt,” is the first “argument” of the Hungarian authorities.
The report said Ukraine had “vast arable land” – and Hungarian farmers would lose subsidies as EU funds were redirected.
Budapest claims that Ukraine is allegedly using genetically modified crops and banned chemicals, which threatens the quality of food products.
In addition, the Hungarian authorities claim that there is a security risk: “Before the war, Ukraine was a center of organized crime. Weapons could fall into the wrong hands.”
Among the potential problems, the Hungarian government cites risks to the labor market (“cheap Ukrainian labor could reduce wages, threaten jobs and pensions”) and pensions (Ukraine’s hasty accession to the EU would allegedly threaten the payment of the 13th pension in Hungary).
Among the “arguments” is one that allegedly there are no mandatory vaccinations in Ukraine – and this creates a threat to public health in the conditions of open borders. In fact, there are mandatory vaccinations in Ukraine.
