Stress concentration on the surface leads to the formation of microcracks and subsequent destruction of products. The most important task of the industry is to increase their durability and reliability, which largely depends on the methods and quality of metalworking. Among the effective technologies, laser impact hardening is distinguished, which allows restraining the development of microcracks, significantly extending the service life of the part. Scientists from Perm Polytechnic University and the Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences conducted research and determined the laser impact treatment mode, in which the fatigue life of the product increases sixfold.
