This tendency, which can increase divisions in society and is called "motivated political projection", was demonstrated in experiments by political scientists from Great Britain and Austria. In one of the surveys, participants were asked to match popular movie villains and heroes, such as Harry Potter, Darth Vader or Gandalf, with political movements.
