Samsung teases smart glasses that will compete with Ray-Ban's Meta

Along with the launch of the Galaxy XR, Samsung announced another product – smart glasses with artificial intelligence, which will compete with Ray-Ban Meta.

According to Samsung’s head of user experience, Jay Kim, two companies will be working on the smart glasses – American eyewear brand Warby Parker and South Korean Gentle Monster. Samsung plans to cover two different markets through these brands, but both devices will have “advanced” artificial intelligence features developed in conjunction with Google.

“We’re also excited about the AI-powered glasses we’re currently building with Google,” Kim said. “We’re partnering with two of the most progressive eyewear brands, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, to bring you new devices that fit your lifestyle.”

Samsung will partner with Gentle Monster to create “stylish” glasses aimed at the premium segment of the market, while the partnership with Warby Parker will allow it to launch a model for a wider range of consumers.

Other details are few at the moment, but Samsung emphasizes that the AI glasses will provide “style, comfort and practicality” in everyday life and will work within the Android XR ecosystem. They will likely have a display for displaying information from Google Gemini.

Like the Meta glasses, Samsung’s devices will also have a built-in camera, speakers, and microphone. However, it remains to be seen how well they will compete with Ray-Ban’s, which feature a screen for a full augmented reality experience.

Moreover, the South Korean company is far from the only one seeking to compete with Meta Ray-Ban. According to insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is also developing smart glasses that will have a display and will be able to work with a full version of the visionOS operating system.
