Two conscripts escaped while being sent to the army: they were put on the wanted list

In Petropavlovsk, when conscripts were being sent to their place of duty, two recruits escaped from the train. They were put on the wanted list, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.As reported by the Department of Defense of the North Kazakhstan Region, the incident occurred on the evening of April 27.

“When sending newly called-up military personnel for compulsory military service to military unit 85510 of the Karaganda region, at the station of the city of Petropavlovsk, two servicemen born in 2003 and 2004 unauthorizedly left the train carriage on the Samara-Karaganda route and disappeared in an unknown direction,” the department informed.

It is clarified that the young people were called up for compulsory military service with the rank of “private” in accordance with the order of the head of the Department of Defense of the North Kazakhstan Region dated April 27, 2024. According to the law “On Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel,” a citizen is considered called up for military service from the moment an order is issued by the head of the local military administration of the region on his conscription for military service. A serviceman is in the performance of military service duties when traveling to and from his place of duty.

“A criminal case has been initiated based on this fact. Registered in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations dated April 29, 2024. Privates Kusainov and Kovalenko have been put on the wanted list,” noted the regional department of defense affairs of the North Kazakhstan region.

Conscripts face punishment under two articles of the Criminal Code: for desertion and unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, if the unauthorized absence lasted more than 24 hours. Both articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

It should be noted that the spring conscription in Kazakhstan began on March 1 and will last until June 30. All conscripts and citizens of military age from 18 to 27 years old are being checked online through the tablets of local military authorities together with the police service.
