The European Parliament will announce the results of the EU-wide exit poll at approximately 21:30 Kyiv time, with the first preliminary result after midnight.
In the European Union, the “Super Sunday” of elections to the European Parliament has begun, which will determine who exactly will shape EU policy for the next five years.European Truth writes about it on Sunday, June 9.
Voting began in some EU countries on Thursday. Today, voters come to polling stations in 21 EU states, including France and Germany, which send the largest number of deputies to the European Parliament: 81 and 96, respectively.
Voting is also taking place today in Poland, Spain, Italy (second day), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Sweden.
Voting has already taken place in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Latvia, Slovakia and Malta.
In total, more than 370 million European citizens have the right to vote in 27 EU countries to elect 720 members of the European Parliament.
It is expected that at approximately 21:30 Kyiv time, the results of the exit poll will be published throughout the EU, and the first preliminary result – after midnight.
Polls predict that the Liberals and the Greens will lose seats. This will reduce the majority of center-right and center-left parties in the European Parliament and complicate efforts to deepen European integration.
The far-right can strengthen its position compared to the results of the last European elections in 2019.
The center-right and pro-Ukrainian European People’s Party is expected to remain the largest group in the European Parliament. Her candidate, Ursula von der Leyen from Germany, will try to be re-elected as president of the European Commission, but it is not guaranteed that she will succeed.
